We start out from where we are

I have been trying to figure out what this blog should do - what it is and what it is not.  At first, I thought the first posting should be really crucial, like the opening pages of a novel; and so I didn't know how to start.  But oh! too much thinking.  I have to start from where I am - none of us has a choice about that in real life.  It is humbling to realise this: how we long to be somebody else and somewhere else already, and have other people think that of us.  So we started out, all of us, on the path of inventing ourselves and letting others invent us, and as the years went by, the fictions became harder to unravel.  We were caught in this web, unable in the end to be parted from the fantasies we have come to rely on in order to recognise ourselves.  For me, it is God who is setting me free from all this, and it is perhaps the fruit of my faith I most often thank Him about.  He knows who I really am, and He is saving me from what I was not born to be.  It has brought inner peace, intimacy with Him, and self-acceptance.

  1. Looking forward to hearing more about this holy unraveling. You have a real poetry to your words John. self invention is sadly inevitable....to see our true nature as god made it to be sounds glorious!
